Inmany ways, the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are a logical and incremental step up over their direct XZ1 and XZ1 Compact predecessors. A beastly Snapdragon 845 chipset powers both, HDR support is added to the new panels and video recording. Everything is now either bigger, louder or with more pixels. Sony Xperia XZ2 Specs

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact doesnât feel or look as expensive as it camera and chipset will smoke those of just about any other phone this size, but unless you go pixel-peeping at its photos or notice the milliseconds it shaves off app loads, you can get a similar experience for under half the Xperia XZ2 Compact price and availabilityLaunch price $649 ÂŁ549, AU$870 SIM-freeCurrent price $609 ÂŁ529, AU$820 SIM-freeRelease date April 2018The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is one of Sonyâs top phones for 2018. It was announced at the MWC conference in February 2018, alongside its big brother the Sony Xperia Xperia XZ2 Compact costs what used to be the standard price for a high-end phone, before the ceiling rose to accommodate mobiles like the iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. At launch it was $649 ÂŁ549, about AU$870 SIM-free, but the XZ2 Compact price has dropped slightly since then, and you can now find the handset for $609 ÂŁ529, around $820.There aren't many direct rivals for the XZ2 Compact. No other big phone brand makes Android phones this small with top-end components. Itâs just not done, giving it an amazing edge for those who still just donât like big featuresCompact build with high-end specsStrong 19MP cameraThe Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact shares many features with the larger, more expensive Xperia XZ2. Itâs what makes this small phone so features include Qualcommâs top-end Snapdragon 845 chipset, a 19MP camera, 64GB of storage and a screen capable of playing HDR video. Thatâs the kind of footage you might watch on a high-end simply donât get this sort of hardware in other phones this small. Your closest option from Samsung is the Galaxy S9, which is a little wider and a lot combination of top-quality internals and a small frame is exactly what some are after. The issue is you wonât necessarily appreciate the quality of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact unless you look the surface this phone is in danger of being interpreted as a cheap and friendly Android. And it is certainly not like the Moto G5S actually feel more high-end than the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, which is quite alarming. However, even that budget favorite has a significantly larger footprint than this is a great phone for the right buyer, particularly as Sony has made real improvements to the camera performance this year. Well, aside from the front camera, which is surprisingly unremarkable. However, you do have to care, a lot, about its small, cuddly and rounded rather than blockyPlastic back doesnât feel that expensiveFingerprint reader yes, headphone jack noMost phone-makers try to make their handsets as thin as they can. The design goal of the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is not about thinness. A small footprint is at least 50% of the appeal Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact has the silhouette of a phone with a screen. Its actual display measures five inches across, but this is only because it has a 'longer' 189 aspect display, like so many recent shape aside, using the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is a pleasant callback to years past, when we didnât have to stretch our thumbs, like a baby in a pram reaching for a cookie, just to tap certain parts of the screen. This has been the key appeal of Sonyâs Compact phones since the series began in Sony Xperia XZ2 Compactâs design is different to the Xperia XZ1 Compact, though. Itâs no longer a rectangular brick, using much smoother curves across its back for a palm-hugging oddly similar to the style of the very first Motorola Moto G, an instantly lovable budget classic. The obvious issue that was a much cheaper Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact has a plastic rear, which does not give it an immediately impressive feel. Itâs also very chunky at thick. Few people handed this phone would assume it's as expensive as ÂŁ549/$ sides are aluminum, but the feel is defined by the smooth, plastic are status objects. Thereâs a certain swallowing of consumer pride necessary here. However, to an extent this has always been the case with Xperia Compact phones. They arenât for its thickness, it is disappointing the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact does not have a headphone jack. You have to use wireless headphones or an annoying little adaptor included that plugs into the USB-C socket on the bottom. Itâs as clear a sign as any that phones with sockets are headed for it frees up space seem spurious in a phone this Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact does have water resistance, though. Itâs IP68 certified, meaning it can be dropped in water without also a fingerprint scanner on the back, which has moved from Sonyâs traditional side position in the Xperia XZ1 Compact. A rear scanner is more convenient, but the position is rather low. You need to move your finger down to reach and the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compactâs chunkiness, are costs of the phoneâs ultra-small up a gadgetâs value is a big part of our job. That the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is more expensive than it seems matters. However, it also trades on being different and earns back some credit with sheer likability. We donât miss the days when many phones were as small as this, but itâs here for people who screen cuts down wasted spaceUltra-saturated colorVery brightThe Sony Xperia XZ2 Compactâs display is another aspect changed for this year. Itâs an 189 aspect screen, leaving smaller screen-less borders at its top and is also a much higher-spec display than the XZ1 Compactâs. That phone has a 720p resolution. This is a wide Full HD screen, with a resolution of 1080 x 2160. Itâs very sharp, with density of 483 pixels per Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact also has the spec bragging points of the larger Xperia XZ2. It supports HDR, and Sonyâs X-Reality engine upscales standard dynamic range content to HDR enough the screen has extremely vibrant color, excellent maximum brightness and great contrast for an LCD, although when tilted there is some visible greying of you find the out-of-the-box color too vibrant, or not vivid enough, you can change it too. The standard mode is a great balance of saturation and accuracy, but the Xperia XZ2 Compact also has a relaxed-looking sRGB mode and a Super Vivid one, dripping in tech does seem wasted on such a small display, though. Watching Netflix or a long YouTube video is going to be more fun on a poorer-quality 6-inch screen than a high-end 5-inch one like this. Sony XZ2 CompactThe main appeal of Sony's Compact series of smartphones has always been flagship specifications in a small form factor but it doesn't come without a price. At $ the Xperia XZ2 Compact is expensive and unless you highly value its compact nature, it isn't worth the Xperia Compact series has always focused on bringing flagship specs in smaller, easier to use form factors. It takes Sonyâs main flagship and shrinks it down without many compromises. The Xperia XZ2 Compact is the lineâs latest offering. What does Sony keep intact from the standard Xperia XZ2? Whatâs different? Letâs find out in this Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact review. Design The plastic back doesn't feel as elegant as the glass back of the standard Xperia XZ2 but this doesn't mean that the XZ2 Compact's build quality has been the biggest and most obvious difference from the standard Sony Xperia XZ2 to the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is the choice of build materials. The XZ2 Compact retains the same curvy rectangular shape and metal frame of the XZ2, but uses a plastic back instead of glass. It doesnât feel as elegant as the glass back of the standard Sony Xperia XZ2, but that doesnât mean that the Compactâs build quality has been compromised. It feels very sturdy and I like the backâs frosted look â itâs attractive and prevents fingerprints. Thatâs something you canât say about the glass back of the an era of thin and light smartphones the XZ2 Compact will stick out like a sore thumb but the extra thickness and heft makes the phone feel more substantial. As expected, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is easy to use in one hand thanks to its small size. The rounded corners and curved back makes it comfortable to hold but itâs not the thinnest or lightest smartphone on the market. At thick, itâs quite chunky and the phone has a significant weight despite its size. In an era of thin and light smartphones the XZ2 Compact will stick out like a sore thumb, though the extra thickness and heft makes the phone feel more substantial. Related Best Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact cases Display Historically, Compact line displays are always lower resolution than their bigger siblings. This is the first year where that isnât the case. The only difference now is the screen size, which makes sense given the phoneâs smaller nature. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact uses the same IPS LCD and 1080p resolution as the regular XZ2 but measures five inches in size. The 1080p resolution provides plenty of sharpness, as text and graphics are crisp and comfortable to read. Itâs not the most impressive display but colors are pleasant, viewing angles are excellent, and itâs bright enough to comfortably use in direct sunlight. For media consumption purposes itâs more than adequate and even supports HDR. It wonât be as enjoyable in comparison to larger, higher resolution Sony made no sacrifices with the phoneâs specs. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact features the same Snapdragon 845 processor and 4GB of RAM as the XZ2 for fast and responsive performance. The XZ2 Compact is quick to launch apps, multitask, and play graphically demanding games at a smooth frame rate. It will handle whatever you throw at it without skipping a 2,870 mAh battery is smaller than many other competing smartphones but the XZ2 Compact has proven to be an all day life is also quite excellent, which I wasnât expecting considering its capacity. The 2,870mAh battery is smaller than many other competing smartphones but the XZ2 Compact proves to be an all day warrior. I consistently get five hours of screen-on time and the XZ2 Compact would comfortably get me into the late hours of the day with around 15 to 20 percent left over. I was very impressed that I never had to recharge the phone midway through the day despite how many hours I spent watching YouTube or playing Most of the hardware features from the Xperia XZ2 make their way over to the Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact. This includes the IP68 certification against water and dust, microSD card expansion, dual front facing speakers, and fingerprint sensor on the back. Unfortunately, the XZ2 Compact also does away with the headphone jack as the XZ2 best news about Sony devices this year is the fingerprint sensor actually works in the which wasnât the case with previous models. The fingerprint sensor of the XZ2 Compact is fast and accurate to unlock, but the placement could use some improvement. I like that itâs far enough away from the camera to prevent any confusion, but it sits a little too far down. I have to bend my index finger in order to properly reach it and it doesnât feel comfortable. Read Next Is the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra a better deal? The front facing speakers deliver crisp and clear audio and itâs much louder than previous iterations, though notably itâs missing the dynamic vibration motor from the standard XZ2. The feature was meant to create a more immersive audio experience with vibrations that could be felt throughout a movie, music, or when playing games. It was a neat idea, but somewhat gimmicky. I doubt many will see its absence as a deal The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact also packs the exact same cameras as the standard Xperia XZ2. The front facing camera comes in at 5 megapixels at f/ while the rear camera is a 19 megapixel Motion Eye camera with f/ aperture and EIS. Sony isnât jumping on the dual camera train just yet, but if Googleâs Pixel 2 is any indication, you donât need dual cameras to have a great camera experience. The XZ2 Compactâs camera isnât as good as the Pixel 2, but it isnât bad not having optical image stabilization the camera performs admirably in low are packed with plenty of detail and sharpness, and color reproduction is pleasant but not oversaturated. Dynamic range is above average, retaining plenty of detail in the shadows and well exposing highlights in most situations. For not having optical image stabilization the camera performs admirably in low light. Noise is kept to a minimum and images are still full of detail and color. Itâs only in the worst of low light situations, like a dimly lit restaurant, do photos begin to fall apart. In most low light situations I was plenty happy with the could really improve its camera app, though. Itâs easy enough to use, but itâs the same one Sonyâs been using for the past several generations. The app feels outdated and itâs odd Sony hasnât implemented an HDR auto mode. Instead, HDR mode is buried in the manual mode the video side of things the camera is packed with features. Slow motion video at 960fps is still available but now has been upgraded to 1080p resolution and the camera natively supports HDR video recording for richer colors and more details. The 3D Creator app Sony implemented last year for creating 3D model scans has also been improved to support the front-facing camera. This makes it much easier to create 3D scans of your own face without anyoneâs The Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact ships with Android Oreo onboard and remains relatively close to stock. A recent over-the-air update does give this phone access to Android 9 Pie. Sonyâs Xperia customizations are very light and unobtrusive â with the usual Playstation integration and Sonyâs standard suite of applications for music, photos, and videos. A handful of Amazon applications and AVG Protection also come preloaded and unfortunately canât be uninstalled, but weâve seen worse offenders as preinstalled bloatware goes. A bateria dura bastante? JĂĄ a parte inferior abriga sĂł a porta USB-C.
